1 » One day after it was reported by FOX 25 out of Boston that a Maybach Mercedes registered to New England Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes was found abandoned on the median of a highway, the former Florida Gators player was released by the team. According to FOX 25, The OnStar representative from the car “told state police the driver of the care reported hitting a deer.” However, while an injured deer was not found near the scene, another car called in that it was rear ended at approximately the same time as the crash involving Spikes’s car. Spikes signed a one-year, $1 million deal with the Patriots (with up to $1 million in incentives), returning to the team that drafted him after spending a season with the Buffalo Bills. His original tenure did not end well in New England, despite his close relationship with owner Bob Kraft, and his return to the franchise was a surprise. If this story sounds relatively familiar that is a vehicle belonging to former Miami Dolphins LB Channing Crowder was also abandoned on a highway in January 2008.

3 » With the 2015 NBA Draft approaching later this month, ESPN Insider took a look at the top shooters available in the two-round event and singled out former Gators guard Michael Frazier II as the best one available despite noting that “he’s more of a shooting specialist than a well-rounded player.” Frazier is currently ranked No. 36 on Chad Ford’s Big Board. He is expected to be a second-round selection but could sneak his way into the late portion of the first round.
Speaking of Frazier, he has been making the rounds visiting with a number of teams as he hopes to improve his draft stock. While stopping in Colorado to meet with the Denver Nuggets, Frazier spoke with the local media and was asked about the departure of Florida coach Billy Donovan. “He never came out and said, ‘I’m going to the NBA,’ Frazier noted, “but everybody had that feeling. It was just that air in the gym, that air in the facility and the locker room that coach might be leaving.” That said, Frazier believes Donovan will succeed in the NBA. “I feel like he’s going to do whatever it takes to win at that level,” he told the Denver Post. “I think he’s going to be very successful at this level.”
4 » Former Florida golfer Mark Calcavecchia won the 2015 Champions Tour Principal Charity Classic on Sunday, shooting 12-under par to capture his first victory since 2012. Calcavecchia, who started playing professional golf in 1981 and won 13 tournaments on the PGA Tour (including the 1989 Open Championship in a playoff), has won three events since joining the Champions Tour.
